Biography
Spurgeon Rice, a 24 year old pianist, has lived in his hometown of Los Angeles since he was born. At the age of 15, he became fascinated with music and soon started his Classical music education and training. He found music to be an increasing obsession, and decided to devote himself to it professionally. Spurgeon now has a Master of Music in Piano Performance from California State University Los Angeles, where he studied with Dr. Robert Ward, who studied in Vienna and whose expertise is in Viennese Classical music. Spurgeon also graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in music at Thomas Edison State University. He has studied a wide range of repertoire from J.S. Bach to Olivier Messiaen. He has performed for Junior Chamber Music twice, was selected as a finalist in the 2014 Southern California Junior Bach Festival, was chosen to perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto in G major K.453 in Bratislava, and has performed numerous ensemble and solo concerts at California State University, Los Angeles.
